Refined Smelter will not ignite or tick down when trying to make or craft something

Wanted to put a hunters trophy in the first settlement as my base but I cannot attach it in any of the walls even though my respite is near. I needed to create a crude wall to attach.

Started the new update, got down in the cave with the first settlers and was tasked with cooking mixed plants and roasted berries. Neither of which show up in the crafting section of the camp fire. I can ignite the fire fine but can't craft anything.
