Whenever I switch to 3rd person, whether that be opening the inventory or just pressing F5, an ammo box spawns at my character's feet. I could be 50 feet in the air and the box just hovers there until I switch back to 1st person, at which point it just vanishes.

I have a similar thing! it's tied to the player model's head angle, so when you switch to first person it's not gone, it's out of sight. You can see it by looking straight up and opening the inventory will place the box in front of the character.
I have this all the time, no matter change clothes/boots/wearing nothing. There is always a box attached to the heels of my character. Obviously not noticeable in 1st person but upon going into 3rd person view the box is there. It then sticks in place and stays floating wherever that was until I go back into 1st person view. This will repeat always the same.
