Trying to get chests onto shelving is like playing a game of Jenga or pick-up sticks. It is clear the shelves were not designed to hold chests. Trying to place a chest on a shelf is a frustrating experience, and not all chests will even fit on all shelves. Given there is a radius for craft/build from storage, getting the chests stacked in as compact a space as possible vertically and horizontally can be necessary if you have a lot of them.
