Hello!
We have recently updated the way our building mode works in the game and how to access it. If you hit the "B" key, it should open the new build mode menu and allowing you to build.
However, if you are still encountering this issue, could you please provide some additional details about what you're seeing and how it is preventing you from building/progressing?
