After conducting thorough testing over 2,500 fishing attempts in Nightingale, I’ve observed that the fishing rating stat doesn’t seem to function as intended. Whether I used a fishing rating of 3 or 197, the catch rate for rare fish remained consistently around 12%. This issue persisted across different realm tiers (T2 to T4).
Based on my tests, there’s no noticeable difference in the catch rate or quality of fish when increasing the fishing rating. I believe this is a bug and have reported it with the hope of a fix in future updates. The community would benefit from clarification on how the fishing rating is supposed to work or an update to ensure the stat functions as intended. Thank you!

Makes you wonder because the Desert Fish srill gives a huge Fishing Rating boost.
I fishing 62x T4 and 600x T2+T3 Fishes with rating 3 and 62x T4 fishes and 716x T2+T3 fishes with 446,4 fishing rating.
@OP: I've noticed that the melee and critical damage of the fishing rod seems to be the operative stats for fishing. You "deal melee damage" to the fish depending on your tension while trying to catch it. Tension in the middle for the damage tick is generally a "critical hit."
I'd certainly be curious to know if fishing rating is a deprecated stat now, myself.
We need also Fisherman's soup.
But before doing it, I need my soup with high quality fish so nice to know the score is bugged actualy :( I'm sad
