I found the cave and had a purity potion to heal the corrupt mushroom in sylvans craddle , which I did. I then later found the quest and it was incomplete when I went to cleanse the mushroom again I could no longer interact with it and the quest was still undone.
Have you tried sleeping or resetting the realm? NPC / quest progress should still be preserved.
