Stuck in reloading animation

There is a tremendous lag between switching from item to item and sometimes i get stuck in one animation from the previous item when trying to use hte next. I have included a screenshot of my character seen trying to reload rounds into an axepick. I got stuck in this animation and had to reload the game. i have turned on the overlay in the image.
