I like to play boss rush solo, and am currently using a stabby crit build with the hunting knife as my main weapon. I've gotten to wave 43 or so, but I find the Sun Giant boss to be very obnoxious as a melee player. Yex can be very slow (my last fight with him took 45 minutes), but is manageable - however a Sun Giant at a higher wave often makes me give up.
My biggest pain points:
His weakspots are out of melee range, so I can only stab his ankles. Killing him at wave 35+ is very, very slow.
Grappling up to his head and trying to stab it on the way down only works sometimes, and not for big damage like other bosses (I can hit Magwytch or Humbaba for ~10M if I get the setup right).
He doesn't follow the player, so I can't kite him to somewhere more advantageous to me.
He does several attacks that mean I need to move away (e.g. lightning aoe attack, sandstorm), so there's a lot of time where I can't attack the boss. Sometimes I can choose to take the hit then repair and heal myself, but that seems like a waste of T1 essence.
He spawns lots of automoton adds, which swarm around me, and make it hard to move away from the Sun Giant when I need to. Above wave 30, it's extremely hard to kill them, and as a solo player I have no way to crowd control them for long.
He launches missiles(?) with very little warning which one-shot me. I'm using charm of resurrection which makes this less of a problem, but it's very hard to avoid when you're close to him.
To be clear, I'm not requesting that the fight is nerfed in any way. I'm just describing my experience so that you can decide if any action is needed. I'm absolutely positive this fight would be more fun with ranged friends assisting (it seems like it was designed to be done with ranged attacks), but perhaps there are ways the fight could be more melee friendly?
