I love the imbued weapon concept used in the game, but I think the biggest handicap right now is the sheer inability to combo spells. I understand that switching tools cancels spells, that makes sense to me since humans in the Nightingale universe seem incapable of using magic without binding magic contracts to items and casting those spells through the bound item (it also makes sense from a gameplay point of view because it forces players to actually think about what spells they put where in order to prevent just having one of every spell equipped somewhere on a tool in the hotbar), but I don't understand while casting another spell cancels the previous one.
The ability to maintain multiple spells at a time would open up new strategies and options in combat that would automatically be self-balanced by the fact that you need to find the time in battle to cast two things back to back.
If I want to cast Life Drain and Shockwave together so the blast damage (or burn Damage with Hermetic Flame) heals me too, or cast Darkenss and Grasping Mire so my vulnerable enemies can't flee my pain zone, I should be able to.
Additionally, with magic being such a core feature of combat, the lack of magic available on firearms really dissuades me from using them. Firearms could have the added incentive of being able to "load" projectile spells for later use, so a player could store Immolation in their gun at a safe space, then rear a corner and blast an elite, or store Salvation and shoot their friend to save them. Another incentive for guns could be faster projectile speeds for the guns and the projectile arch feature for bows and the launcher so you can hit arched shots over cover walls.
To fix the overlap of inputs, just move reloading to holding the interact button for a second.
