Perhaps I am still too used to the era before crafting from chests was added, but this still could be helpful. Something that happens to me frequently is I look at what is available in my chests, pick out what I want to use, and then have to find it somewhere deep in the dropdown of all the materials that are available in my storage.
A very easy solution would be to move the items that are in your inventory to the top of the list. Perhaps to make it clear what's going on, have two sections: one labeled "inventory crafting" and the other "storage crafting".
