is there a use for Realm Portals any more?

In the previous version of the game, you needed to use the Fae Portals in the Realms until you could make your own Crude Portal.

With the Empyrean Portals now taking you to the story Realms, there's no need to use the Fae Portals. When you arrive in a Realm, it's to a Fae Ring, so you aren't even walking out of a Fae Portal.


In the previous build, Puck would direct you and give you cards, but it was up to you to find a portal and use it. Now you fast travel to the same spot so that Puck can open the next portal.

The illusion that you're making your own way is significantly reduced. Puck isn't manipulating or persuading you, they're leading you.


I didn't feel any connection with the old Portal Network that is mentioned in the lore and which has now been shattered. In the previous version, it felt like I was using the risky and broken remnants of that system, now you're using these Empyrean portals and then your own.

Perhaps switching back to arriving from a Fae Portal would at least give them some purpose. Or needing them to be activated with an Estate Address Card before your travel-to-cairn option is activated in this Realm.


Maybe have them created with a 'damaged' card already in the machine. One that opens a Realm that is significantly harder than the one you are in (but that has better rewards) so that there's a point to using them (if you want to take that risk)
