I think a "Faux Leather" item, or something similar that can be crafted from any type of fibre(plant,fish,animal), could add a bit more options to crafting recipes that use a limited set of items without much wiggle room (ex backpacks). Similar to how durable cloth can be used in place of regular cloth in many recipes to give the item a bit more effectiveness and customizability.
It could also allow materials such as plant and fish fibres to be used in recipes that only use leather/straps/hide as ingredients.
I think a good basic start for a recipe could be a simple combo of fibre and coating at a tanning station, but any recipe, as long as it uses fibre as the main ingredient, would be agreeable.
