I'd love to have easier access to my companion's inventory. The current implementation isn't terrible but I'm accessing it often enough that a one-click/one-button solution would be really nice. Two things come to mind for that.
1) When looking at the companion, a button ('R' for example) immediately opens their inventory. Alternatively, I'm not using the "speak with companion" option at all, so that might as well be confined to the radial menu, while 'E' opens their inventory instead.
2) A new button in the player's inventory screen that opens the companion's inventory (and possibly commands them to come to you in the process). This feature would be particularly useful when the player is overloaded and has to chase down the companion in slow motion.

The companion's movement routine itself is infuriating.
When I start building or setting up a craft table, it interrupts and stops right in front of me.
When I open a container to organize items, it runs left and right all the time in the immediate vicinity.
When I point the camera at the companion and try to give him an order or talk to him to open his inventory, he dashes back and goes all the way around behind me. I can't talk to them all the time.
When I allow building, sometimes materials are put in and sometimes not, and I can't tell the difference.
If I could open the inventory without touching it directly and give commands with different controls, I wouldn't have to chase him all the time, and I could stop moving as soon as I am building.
I would love to see this happen.
