Intro area tree fights back with fatal consequences

In the beginning of the second region of new game, right after playing cleansing card but before picking up the hunting knife, some trees off to the side can be hacked down with an axe picked up in the first region. However, through forces unknown one is capable of fighting back with lethal force. It is unclear how this will affect progress, so I'm marking as "doesn't impact" until something indicates otherwise.
