We need pillars that also act as foundations. This would allow up to build actual bridges or other structures over water without ruining the look of the native water flow. The bridge in the picture shows what Iams talking about.

1) place a foundation 2) add an arch on that foundation 3) add a second arch that is attached to the side of the previous arch and is unsupported below 4) embed a pillar in unattached edged of the unsupported arch 5) you can now add a second pillar below the embedded pillar such that it becomes embedded in the water/ground 6) you can delete the embedded pillar if you don't like the look; delete the first foundation and arch etc.
You can, with a lot more fiddling around, set a foundation on the bank and then add foundations in a line out over the water such that when they are over the water a second layer of foundations is needed that is just below the surface of the water then delete all but the below-the-water foundations and build from there. But the first way is a lot quicker and easier
Although this sounds like a great feature, I believe it will be really tricky to do because foundations are a special type of structure that basically all the building pieces snap to. Even pillars are fixed to snap at the corners of foundations probably so they can do the proper supporting-structure calculations.
I suppose we could have an invisible foundation to serve as the base though that could result in buildings and furnishings that look like they are floating.

Maybe quarter size foundations...
