I was thinking that it would be nice to have some horizontal beam/pillar options for buildings and support, like how they have it in Raft. That way it would be easier to build structures like bridges, and multiple-story homes, without having pillars and walls cluttering up the lower floors as much.

Horizontal beams and being able to hang stuff - particularly lights - from them, and place wall-attachable things on their sides, would be lovely for feel and decoration, a good suggestion.
I like the pitched roof - but can't hang chandeliers - need the horozontal beams - which are very Tudor BTW.
addtionally, walls on the upper floors shouldn't need pillars or other walls directly underneath them. It makes the lower floors an absolute mess when you want to add bedrooms on an upper section and leave the lower floor for bigger rooms like the kitchen and dining hall.
I'm fine with support being required, but I want more ways to provide it (beams/structural arches, even magic).
Agreed.
Already, even with an area as large as 5x5, the upper floors are not free to take the floor plan.
Since this is a fantasy game, I think the impact of the pillars, etc. should be much looser to begin with.
