Building Snapping, More shapes, More fill.

Building Snapping was already posted and i was suprised it did not get many upvotes. The allowing of building snapping to be turned on or off adds a whole new world of creativity and so my suprise that none of the builders out there upvoted the old post was a huge suprise. So here i am posting about it again.

im an avid builder and i feel ok keep structural integrity is key for building and allowing other structures to be built above, BUT aside from that (dont remove it) just allow for free placement ontop of all of this . i will say once i have extinguished the capability of snapped objects in my building adventures and once the game has been beat i probably wont return. and i will say this ...

if taking to long to impliment this like ie icarus did, you will lose to much of a player base that was concentrated on building like myself.

may i also suggest other pieces i.e. railings stairs not needing to be snapped to floors / foundations.

If free placement is unachievable then i would consider adding more base shaped foundations and floor cielings and roofs i.e. triangle, hex, curved etc again this allows for more creativity. Maybe consider adding this regardless of freeplacement. doing so would give the building focused players more of a reason to stay and to promote this game as a good experience to other players. As is right now its pretty standard and lack luster. ive considered dropping this game several times to go back to Ark just to build and i have little reason to either suggest this game or even gift it out.

now i feel its cool that there are 20+ different lights to be used and the augments are cool to fill SOME areas but whats the point of building big mansions or temples or anything past a basic shack if you cant fill it with intricacies, bobbles, and knick-knacks. the way i think of all these games for building is YAyyyyy i have walls and empty rooms! next game please im sure i can speak for most is there is a feeling of ok cool ive furnished my crafting rooms.............................................................. closes game

attached is the first work-around rounded building i did. but i will say i feel unsatisfied

I can vouch for this need.

Some additional things that would be great to add would be Quarter tiles (basically get a normal wall/floor tile and divide it in 4).

I really would recommend you explore the riles available in Valheim to see the shapes. It should cover all the needs. It's not about copying, it's about seeing what works and getting inspiration. Nothing wrong with it.

That said, the roof tiles should really match the quarters that I just mentioned. It's file if there are "bigger" more complex roof parts that need to be a single bigger piece. But the standard roof bits should really be smaller.

Building is a lot of fun in Nightingale and things looks great, but though it's got some advantages over some other similar games, there are some pretty big limitations too.

Unequal building sets are frustrating. Why doesn't ever building set have the same selection of pieces? I recently opened up shack pieces, started replacing my old wooden building with it, then realized there wasn't even a windowless wall piece. So far, the starting wooden set is the most versatile, until you get up to the tudor set stairs additions and useable window sills.

Why not just have every piece have a equivalent in every set?

Also +1 on equilateral triangle shapes. Would love to see curved walls and foundation pieces as well.

Suggest adding a way to destroy large portions of a building at once too since everything can float. It makes taking down large structures very painful.

Oh, additionally, the current system rotates pieces by 45° .. Please do change that into 15°. Why? Because that's a universal angle for both square and equilateral triangle shapes:

      • 90° = 6*15° - normal right angle

      • 45° = 3*15° - half a rotation for square foundations

      • 60° = 4*15° - one equilateral triangle snap

      • 30° = 2*15° - half an equilateral triangle snap, combines well with snapping to rectangles for filling the floor

I was about to post the same request. We need more variety in shapes. Current meta is to struggle with placing rotated foundations until they sort of mesh with the rest of the build, but it's exhausting, unreliable, and frustrating. Even if only equilateral triangle foundations/floors/roofs were added, it would be a huge improvement of the build system. See attached graphic of what a simple triangle can allow us to build.
Also, an equilateral triangle can easily form a hexagon (as shown in the graphic), so that takes care of that.

That one came to my mind this night. Nice to see that the suggestion was already made. But 17 Votes?! Hmpf ... i see it like you guys posting here: like removing the realistic support to ground this would have a massive impact on the freedom to build.

"If free placement is unachievable then i would consider adding more base shaped foundations and floor cielings and roofs"

      Correction: "Regardless of if..."

Moar shapes etc! And that half-railing, too. I've got a balcony that clips the full railing through a sloped roof that just makes it look silly. Also other clipping issues with building that are major eyesores, but this would be a start.

      Also:

      • Pool floors, Allow for placing foundations/elements below water level.

      • Bridging elements, allow for ceiling/upper floor elements to be attached to foundations

oh i forgot to mention .... HALF RAILINGS! are needed ught im so frustrated with gaps when encapsulating the tudor strair openings with railing
