Ornate Maul has hit registry problems

Very frequently, the Ornate Maul will fail to register a hit with numerous objects. Mostly tested with inanimate objects found in the wild. For example, Fae Chests. Attempting to strike the object will cause the maul to swing through the object half of the time. Follow-up swings within the combo may or may not strike.

Any other tool can easily strike the object to damage it.
