I was building a house out of crude wood and i was working on the second story, and it wouldnt let me place a rail/fence above a doorway on the floor below, i can place a wall there but not a railing, which is what lead me to bugreport.

And a workaround I discovered, looking at another's post. Removed roof/upper story in this spot, placed railing, then replaced upper story/roof. Works great now.
further information on this. The railings (of multiple tilesets, apparently) do not work snapping over doorways even when the doorway has been reinforced by pillars). My example was attempting to make a tudor one snap, over the doorway, and embedding pillars on both sides of the doorway to make it more stable.
This is also an issue with other tiles. You can place a rail on top of the tile (door, arch, wall), but if there's a floor on top of the tile most of the time it is not allowed.
