I know this will be a controversial suggestion as there are some people who are adamantly against any sort of RL money being involved after purchasing a game. A good counterpoint to downvote my suggestion is encouraged.
I think a RL cash shop could help sustain the game (and staff!) as long as the items are purely cosmetic. I am thinking of things like new pets / pet reskins for the house, and cosmetic glamour pieces for the player and for their Survivor.
Example right off the bat: With December right around the corner, a cute caroling cat dressed in Dickensian garb would be super sweet. Model it similar to the Scholarly Cat, but maybe with a red bonnet / top hat, glasses, and a red velvet capelet (or red and green Royal Stewart plaid).
For those who are not fond of felines (le gasp!), what about a Caroling Corgi? Or a Dickensian Dachshund? Or an Evergreen Eoten?
It is not unheard of for games that are in beta / pre-release / Early Access to have actual cash shops in place (it's part of testing, after all), and offer vouchers for Live to be reimbursed.

In terms of personal feelings of "micro-transactions", overall, not a fan.
imho, any in-game item should be available through gameplay.
However, pure cosmetic items are by far the least offensive. As they detract basically nothing from the experience or hinder/boost an account's compared to any other.
TLDR; yes vote. as long as they are purely cosmetic.
Personally, I'd love a way to further contribute to the game itself and longevity.
I did it with Conan in Early Access, Vrising Early Access, Ark Early Access, so on and so forth.
I think it'd be a nice way to help them help us so to speak.
Give them support, as best we can, and in turn, we get fun items as well!
Is there a risk for people who hate that, sure but then that's the fun point on choices right? They don't like it, don't do it. It's very common in games, early access or no.
I'm in favor of selling cosmetic items for real money, but I think it's too soon to introduce this feature. I worry that it could be seen as a cash grab, especially after the recent layoffs. I'd like to know if the CEO took a pay cut before the layoffs. The company is in a difficult position, and I think that introducing a cosmetic cash shop at this time would be a mistake.
Nothing is a surer sign of an impending "cut & run" to prospective players than an additional monetization layer added on top of a game that hasn't even had its core gameplay work completed yet.
