A wish for alternate ways to collect water in rain barrels

I want to build a new home in a desert. This desert has structures that produce water that falls into pools. However I discovered you cannot collect this water in rain barrels, which makes farming without having to use a realm card to change the environment challenging if not impossible. My feature request is for alternate ways to collect water in these rain barrels. I feel like if a rain barrel is placed under any source of water that falls it should be able to fill with said water.
